The Netlandtowers.com Community prides itself in maintaining a family oriented, friendly and peaceful setting for our members to enjoy. Because of this, there are a few rules that everyone that frequents the website, message boards, chat rooms and any other forums, must adhere to. These are simple common curtesy rules, but we ask that you read and understand them prior to joining our community. You should also keep up on any changes in them as time goes on. Please keep in mind that our moderators (The Amyrlin, Keeper, Amyrlin Emeriti) have final jurisdiction over any dispute deriving from or occurring within the netlandtowers.com community. This includes both IC and OOC issues. These people are extremely approachable on several different mediums, PLEASE bring any concerns to them.

Using Tower Material - If you would like to use graphics from the Netland Towers on your website please email the Amyrlin or Keeper for more information. For all written works not written by you, obtain the permission of the author before using it. This applies to biographies, library material, and other situations.
Member Law is distinct from Character Law. "Member" refers to the player, "Character" is the fictional creation. (A member may have multiple characters.)
1. Each Member is responsible for:
- Maintaining a valid email address.
- Ensuring his/her Member Listing and any Character Listings are current. See the Updates section for how to do this.
- Submitting Point Requests for characters.
- Saving a copy of every piece of Role Play (at least until Raising, or a thread or RP is finished). Things happen, boards crash - failure to save work is the player's fault and the Officers cannot help.
2. Members must be familiar with Tower Law and read the FAQ. As Tower Law may change at any time, Players are encouraged to check back regularly.
3. Any instance of harassment should be reported to an Officer.
4. Each member is responsible for his/her own character's Raising Requirements.
5. Members must keep characters active to play additional ones. An active character is one that posts points regularly; no points accumulated in any 30-day period equals inactivity. Players may not generate new characters if they have more than one inactive character. It is recommended that new players stick with only one character for at least several months.
6. Members may not use characters from the books in their own characters' biographies, or RP characters from the books.
7. Sensitive subjects including rape, miscarriage, and other such issues are NOT to be played publicly in detail, which includes use in biographies (they may be played in PC, PM, or email at player's discretion). Aside from being in poor taste, these are issues many players may themselves have experienced, and they may not wish to read a fictional account. Posts making reference to strong themes such as these should post a notice at the top. Scenes of torture are permitted, but should include a notice at the top.
8. No member will be permitted to harass another member. Doing so may result in banning. (See Penalties.)
9. Characters who fall inactive and are not revived within 3 months (special circumstances and pre-arrangements excepted) may become community property. This is to protect those with storylines dependant on the missing character - such as roommates, bondmates, spouses and so forth.
10. If a character falls inactive and becomes community property, this may be final. Those who have been playing the character (bondmates, spouses, etc), along with the Amyrlin and Keeper, will decide if the original player may resume exclusive rights to the character.
11. If a member quits and has their information removed from the site, this is final. The player must reapply and create new characters if they want to return. Members that must leave for a period of time (over 3 months) should make special arrangements.
12. No player may move another player's character without permission.
- Example: It is OK to say, "Jendaia sliced her dagger viciously downward, it was aimed to pierce Syrennah's outstretched arm."
- It is NOT OK to say, "Jendaia sliced her dagger viciously downward; it pierced Syrennah's outstretched arm before she had time to blink."
- The other player knows how that character would react, you do not. Let them decide if the blow lands, or if your attempt at subterfuge was successful.
- Please keep in mind Point distributions as you play.
In-Character rules are distinct from Member rules; they apply to the characters of certain ranks and guilds. The player may choose to have the character break these rules, but doing so leaves the character open to discovery and punishment.
1. The restrictions for each Guild can be found in that Guild's section.
2. Members of all Guilds are expected to follow the rank structure outlined in the books, and defer to another character where appropriate.
Message Boards are the most popular medium for RolePlay and the only way to reliably communicate with the entire community.
Moderators, which are Tower Officers and occasionally others, are familiar with these rules and will enforce them. The Moderator for a particular board is shown on the board listing. Moderators are to be obeyed.
1. OOC Message Board
- The OOC Message Boards are informational forums and should be viewed on a regular basis by all Tower Members. Important announcements will usually be "pinned" at the top of the board and duplicated on the announcements page of the website.
- Try to keep topics to those related to the Netland Towers, the Wheel of Time, or members of the Netland Towers community. All topics are to be morally/legally acceptable for a person aged 13 to read. No detailed sexual situations or detailed violence.
- Rude, intolerant remarks and personal attacks ("flames") will be deleted or edited with no warning or notice and may result in banning. Do not reply to a flame.
- If you have a concern or issue with a Community member(s), deal with it privately via email or personal messages and keep it off the public boards. Furthermore, be polite.
- When an issue is brought before the entire community, it should be presented constructively and with suggestions. Complaints with no suggestions accomplish nothing.
- People from all over the globe are members of the Community. ALWAYS show respect and courtesy to others. Not all people share the same beliefs or social rules.
- No Harassment permitted. See Harassment section for more details.
- No discrimination permitted. This includes and is not limited to race, gender, ethnic backgrounds, moral standards, religious beliefs, traditions, etc.
- Never discuss books in the series 6 months or newer in the public forums. There may be a board created specifically for discussion of new books. There you can spoil, but be mindful of the Subjects you use on your posts, as people from any forum can see the Subject of the latest post.
2. IC Message Boards
- All Tower and Character Laws apply to the In Character Message Boards.
- No usage of swear words that do not fit inside the Wheel of Time setting permitted.
- Out of Character notes and posts are not appropriate. OOC notes may be deleted by Moderators, and in extreme cases the entire post may be deleted. If you have an OOC issue to address, use email, Private Messages, or any other acceptable Communications Medium.
- If you edit a post please indicate what changes were made. Do this at the bottom of the post. (example edit: fixed spelling)
- Be mindful of the difference between IC and OOC. Just because you are reading a thread does not mean your character knows this information IC.
3. Private Messages
- The Private Message ("PM") feature is provided for member convenience. It should not be used to harass other members.
- PMs can be forwarded, and should be forwarded to an Officer if warranted.
- Occasionally the Amyrlin or Keeper may do a "Mass PM." This PM sent to all MB members is as binding as any MB post or Website addition.
- PMs should be used instead of OOC notes in IC posts.
Chat Rooms are a popular form of RP and OOC interaction. See this page for information on how to connect.
1. OOC expectation of players
- Treat others as you wish to be treated
- Obey the Ops
- Respect your fellow chatters and be mindful of sensitive or "loaded" subjects.
2. IC expectation
- Remain IC
- Be descriptive, but not long winded. You only get about 280 characters per line.
- If you have a plot you would like to pursue but the events would get your character into trouble, mention it to others who are playing - particularly those whose characters outrank yours. Failure to do so may result in IC punishments for your character, in addition to disrupting your plot.
- Respect requests made as above.
3. Members are encouraged to log their chats, including PC
4. Ops are experienced chatters and members in good standing who are present to maintain order and uphold the laws presented here. They have the power and authority to warn, kick, and ban at their discretion.
- A warning, given publicly or in PC is a courtesy and not a requirement - it may not always be given. If no warning is given, consider a kick your warning.
- An OP must always be logging. In the event of a kick or ban, the log (or an excerpt) must be emailed to the Amyrlin and Keeper.
5. Do what you will in PC, but the chatrooms are not for picking up dates or engaging in cybersex.
6. Legal and Safety Issues
- The CRs are run out of the United States, where it is illegal for adults to engage in cybersex with minors (those under the age of 18), or to encourage a minor to meet with them in person.
- Minors invited to or wishing to attend a "Social" are encouraged to have their parents call and talk with elder members of the community who will be at the Social. Parents are welcome at Socials, and we've had a great time with them in the past. Many of our members are parents themselves.
- Depending on circumstances, foreign nationals here on a student visa may risk having their visa revoked for meeting those whom they have met online.
- Harassment of members in a CR or PC will not be tolerated.
The Site (also called Tower) Officers can be found here. The name of the Character or Member currently filling the role and their up-to-date contact information are provided. Each Officer's duties are also described there and are considered part of the Law.
Harassment may take several forms. These forms include but are not necessarily limited to: Unsolicited and unwelcome sexual overtures and advances; repeated emails, PMs, PCs, IMs, etc; abuse of power by an OOC officer or IC authority.
If you believe you are being harassed:
- Send a message to the offending party politely and clearly requesting they cease their actions.
- If the action continues, gather all the documentation you can: chat logs, emails, etc.
- Clearly and concisely present your complaint, with evidence, to the Amyrlin and Keeper. They cannot help if they are not aware of the situation.
- They will do what they can and what seems warranted: up to and including notifying the offender's ISP and/or the proper authorities.
Severity of a given infraction will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: detriment to the Community; relative ages of complainant and perpetrator; frequency of occurrence both between the particular Members and in the Community. The Amyrlin and Keeper will have the final say on what constitutes Major and Minor infractions.
1. For minor infractions:
- First offenses will be issued a warning.
- Second offenses may be issued a public warning, but are not guaranteed one.
- Continued flouting of the posted rules and laws may result in character limits being imposed, or banning from any or all of the following: netlandtowers.com website; site-hosted email; message boards, chat rooms.
2. For more severe infractions:
- First offenses may be issued a warning, but are not guaranteed one.
- Continued offenses may result in public notice and banning from any or all of the following: netlandtowers.com website, site-hosted email; message boards, chat rooms.
- In extreme cases, the offender's ISP may be notified.
- Threats of violence toward any member or sexual harassment of an acknowledged minor by an adult may also result in law enforcement notification.
NetlandTowers.com is not for profit.

While members are expected to RP with the same level of taste Robert Jordan demonstrates (no explicit sex or crude language), and attempts will be made to moderate this, no guarantee of age-appropriateness is made. Our age range is considered to be 13 and above. Members will please keep this in mind.
