Creating a Character

Before you submit a new character, please read these suggestions from your friendly Registrars on character creation and biography writing.

Never rush completing a character profile at 3 am. Your thoughts will be quite jumbled, and the character you create might not make sense. This would cause him/her to be rejected, and you'd have to start over or heavily revise anyway.

If you do have a character(s) already, decide whether you have enough time to manage roleplaying all these characters and keeping them active. It's not advisable to create new characters that you will not use often.

Think carefully before you create the character, especially if you are trying for the first time. What do you have in mind for him/her? Are the events described in his/her biography logical and coherent?

Your characters need not follow the social norm or have a similar history to someone in the books. For example, novices need not have rescued a person or animal to know they can channel or something miraculous, but perhaps just have done something simple like lit a candle or brought rain to parched crops. (And not every family has been killed off by Trollocs!)

Do not just basically copy a character history from the books. Be creative and unique, though stay within what is "realistic" for the Wheel of Time world. Also, all characters need not be sweet and kind to everyone around them. This will allow for more interesting character interaction.

In your bio, you should preferably elaborate on the life and past experiences of your character.

Examples:

  • childhood and any interesting incidents in his/her past
  • learning experiences and skills with needlecraft, weapons, etc.
  • any prior channelling experience, if applicable
  • why the character goes to the White/Black Tower or becomes a Child of the Light, etc.
You don't need to include all of these but you should include enough information to allow other characters to better understand and interact with yours.

Although quality is valued over quantity in bios, it is advisable to have a bio of at least 650 words so that it includes enough details about your character. Take a look at some of the bios of third rank characters in the guild you want to join for good examples.

Check for spelling, grammatical errors, and paragraphing before you submit your bio. This allows other players who read your bio to better understand your character, and also helps us review it more easily and quickly.

Lastly, if you do face any problems in creating a character, feel free to contact a Registrar or one of our active Mentors.

Don't take offense if you are asked to review your character the first time, it's just to help you to develop him/her more so that both you and other players will have a better grasp of your character during roleplays!

If you do not send a bio, your info will be automatically deleted, and you will have to start the join process over. So do not submit characters if you don't have a bio yet!!
